| PACKING TIPS |
---|
| | Purchase proper packing supplies, including boxes in all sizes, bubble wrap, paper wrap, and tape. Non-standard packing materials will make the move inefficient. |
| | Create a portable packing kit with marking pens, a tape measure, packing tape, twine, and scissors. Carry it with you as you pack up items around your home. |
| | Reinforce the bottom of boxes with extra tape for added strength. Tape all seams of the of the box and bring the tape half way up the side of the box. |
| | Label each box with the name of the room in your new home where it should be placed. We recommend using color-coded labels for each room. |
| | List the contents of the box on the side of it. |
| | Number the boxes and keep a list of which boxes go in which room in your new home. |
| | Label boxes containing fragile items with large red lettering. |
| | Wrap china and stack plates upright on their sides, not flat. China should be packed in double wall, china boxes for all fragile items, use generous amounts of paper to prevent breakage. |
| | Pack your TV, stereo, and computer in their original boxes whenever possible. ELECTRONICS BREAK EASILY – INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER DAMAGE TO INTERNAL ELECTRONICS GIVEN THEIR SENSITIVE NATURE. |
| | Pack heavy items into their own smaller boxes and place lighter items together into larger boxes Do not over pack boxes – while it might save packing materials, boxes are only designed to hold so much and can break. |
| | Don’t move flammable, combustible, corrosive, or explosive items such as paint, gasoline, etc. Please properly dispose of these items – movers cannot move these items either. |
| | Pack a bag of personal items you will need during the move (change of clothes, toiletries, medicine, maps, food, and drinks). Keep it in an easy-to-find location. |
| | Remove lampshades and put into boxes. |
| | Pack all of valuables yourself, i.e., jewelry, family heirlooms, etc., insurance Valuation does not take sentimental value into account. |
| | Do not over pack boxes – while it might save packing materials, boxes are only designed to hold so much and will break. |
| | Be sure to purchase the correct boxes for certain items, for example, padded and divided boxes should be used to pack delicate china. Wardrobe boxes can save unpacking by keeping your clothes wrinkle-free. |
